(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday, a bill led by U.S. Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) to name the Eatonville Post Office after Mount Rainier National Park Ranger Margaret Anderson passed in the Senate by unanimous consent.
Earlier this month, Senators Murray and Cantwell sent a letter to Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairman Tom Carper and Ranking Member Tom Coburn urging them to pass a bill out of their committee. Ranger Anderson was fatally shot in the line of duty on January 1, 2012. In recognition of Ranger Anderson’s courage and sacrifice, Representative Dave Reichert introduced H.R.1036, to rename a post office in Eatonville in her honor. This legislation passed the House of Representatives by voice vote on March 24th, 2014.
“We are so pleased that the Senate has passed this bill to honor Ranger Anderson,” the Senators said. “Naming the Eatonville Post Office after Ranger Anderson will honor her dedication to public service, and the dedication of all those who put their lives on the line daily to protect the public.”
