Legislation supports policies that contribute to the healthy development of 44,800 children in Washington state
Legislation includes key provisions authored by Senator Murray
Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, applauded the passage of the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act. The legislation, which now heads to the President’s desk, places an emphasis on promoting policies that will support opportunities for parents to work, enroll in school, or get job training, while also contributing to the healthy development of children. More than 1.5 million children benefit from the federal child care subsidy program, including 44,800 children in Washington state.
“I am so pleased Congress has passed this bipartisan legislation that helps expand opportunity for families in Washington state and across the country,” said Senator Murray. “As a mom and former pre-school teacher, I know how important quality child care programs are to families, and this legislation allows parents to work, attend school, or get job training, all with the peace of mind that their kids are taken care of, in a safe child care setting. I have been a strong supporter of this bill, and I look forward to the President signing it into law.”
The legislation also includes key provisions that Senator Murray has authored, including policies to help more homeless families access child care, and authorizing a national toll-free hotline and website for families seeking safe, affordable, quality child care in their community.
