Washington, D.C—Today, U.S Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, released the following statement on Sylvia Burwell’s nomination to be the Director of the Office of Management and Budget.
“President Obama has made a great decision in nominating Sylvia Burwell to lead the Office of Management and Budget. She has excelled at the highest levels of academia, public service, and philanthropy, including as Deputy Director at the Office of Management and Budget.
“In fact, Sylvia served in the Clinton Administration at a time when they worked with us in Congress to cut spending responsibly, raise new revenue from the wealthiest Americans, balance the budget, and create millions of new jobs. The choices made by the next Administration reversed much of that progress, but Sylvia’s experiences will be extremely valuable as we work to tackle our budget challenges in a balanced way that works for middle class families and communities.
“Sylvia has dedicated much of her career to public service and philanthropy, and she clearly understands the impact of fiscal and budget decisions on the lives of families across the country. She will step into a tough job at a critical moment, but I am confident she can handle the challenge I look forward to her testimony when she appears before the Budget Committee.”
