Bellingham Housing Authority to get $163,080 to help homeless veterans

The Bellingham Housing Authority will receive 25 vouchers worth
$163,080 to help homeless veterans find housing, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray
announced Tuesday, June 1.

The vouchers are part of the Veterans
Affairs Supportive Housing Program through the federal Department of
Housing and Urban Development.

As chairman of the Senate Housing
Appropriations Subcommittee, Murray secured $75 million for public
housing agencies across the country to help about 10,000 veterans.

Each
voucher is worth about $7,500 and provides rental assistance for
housing for a homeless veteran and family members.

“Each one of these vouchers represents a year’s rent for someone who
has sacrificed for our nation but is now struggling to find housing,”
Murray, D-Washington, said in a statement.
