(Washington,
D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate
Budget and Veterans Affairs Committees, applauded Budget Committee passage of
the 2011 Budget Resolution containing significant support for veterans in
Washington state and across the country. Murray worked closely with the Obama
administration to ensure that the budget contained the resources needed to care
for physical and mental health care as well as implement the GI bill, and help
our homeless veterans find housing and counseling.

am proud to support this budget that will help us move toward the 21st Century
VA that our veterans deserve.
“This
budget resolution includes advance appropriations so that veterans’ health care
is never held hostage by Congressional delays.
“We
also invest in advances to provide specialized care for the invisible wounds of
war, speed tuition payments to recent veterans under the Post 9/11 GI Bill,
modernize health records, and bring homeless veterans in from the streets.
“As
we invest in our future we can never turn our backs on who have worked to make
our country great. Our budget fulfills the promise to care for our
veterans and their families. These brave men and women have sacrificed so
much for this nation and they deserve the health care, benefits and job skill
resources to help them succeed when they return home.”
Senator
Murray is a leader in the Senate on Veterans issues. She recently introduced
comprehensive legislation addressing skyrocketing veterans’ unemployment rates.
The bill includes a series of proposals that improve training, skills
transition, education, and small business assistance programs.
