“I
am very glad that a compromise was reached that will allow us to move forward
with a vote on the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ For far too long we’ve
asked those with the courage and honor to serve our nation to hide the truth
about who they are as individuals. It’s a policy that has failed in its
intended goals and done a tremendous disservice to men and women who want
nothing more than to defend their country. As top-ranking military
officials have indicated, it’s also a policy that simply doesn’t work. I am
proud to support this compromise, and I will continue working to repeal ‘Don’t
Ask, Don’t Tell.”
