Murray announces nearly $400 million for local military construction

U.S. Senator Patty Murray, a member of the Senate Military
Construction Appropriations Subcommittee (MCAS), announced $398.8
million for military installations in Washington State. The funding will
be used to make improvements to a number of installations that
facilitate training and care for service members and their families. The
funding is also expected to create family-wage construction jobs in
communities throughout the state. The funding was included in the Fiscal
Year 2010 Military Construction Appropriations bill.

“Our state’s military installations are the backbone of our country’s
defense, our communities’ economic well-being, and our service members’
training,” said Senator Murray. “This bill doesn’t just make physical
improvements to our state’s bases, it invests in improving the quality
of life for our service members and their families. This funding will
help create jobs, get local economies moving, and ensure that Washington
state remains home to some of our country’s very best military
facilities and service members.”

The bill passed by the Senate included $136.4 million for Kitsap’s
military installations, and $87.3 million for Bangor. Also to receive
funds are Fort Lewis, Fairchild, and Spokane.
