Senator Murray Announces Almost $40 Million in Funding for Crucial Washington State Health and Child Care Programs

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that $39,430,347 has been made available for crucial health and child care programs in Washington state. These programs will provide health care for children, and will support child care services for more families whose children require care while they are working, seeking employment or receiving job training or education.

As a senior member of the Senate committees that fund and oversee health care policy, Murray worked to ensure that investments in Washington’s health and child care programs were a key component of the Recovery Act.  Senator Murray voted to pass the Recovery Act on February 13th. The bill was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th.

“Investing in vaccinations, preventive medicine and care for Washington state’s children and families is good health care policy, and it is good economic policy”, said Senator Patty Murray. “In this recession it is absolutely imperative that families have access to the programs that they need to stay healthy and stay working.
