Senator Murray Announces $1.5 Million for University of Washington Pacific Northwest Climate Change Research

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that the University of Washington has been awarded $1,588,828 from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). These funds will be used to support research on the effects of climate change on Pacific Northwest ecosystems and fisheries, which are critical to Washington state’s economy.

“Washington state’s families and communities depend on our natural resources for our economy and our way of life,” said Senator Patty Murray. “This funding will help the University of Washington research the effects of climate change on the Pacific Northwest and determine the best way to protect state treasures like our national forests and coasts.”

The NOAA funding will go to the University of Washington’s Center for Science in the Earth System.
