(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) applauded the announcement by the Department of Transportation that three projects in Washington state were awarded funds today as part of $100 million in the Economic Recovery Act for pursuing cutting-edge environmental technologies to help reduce global warming, lessen America’s dependence on oil and create green jobs.
“These funds will create jobs in Washington state’s growing clean-energy sector and will help our communities reduce their greenhouse gas emissions,” said Senator Patty Murray. “These funds will put people to work today and will help us move toward a cleaner transportation system by supporting the purchase of new, clean-energy technology for our local transit agencies.”
As the Chairman of the Transportation and Housing Appropriations Subcommittee overseeing funding for the Department of Transportation, Senator Murray worked to ensure that investments in clean-energy transportation projects were included in the Recovery Act. Senator Murray voted to pass the Recovery Act on February 13th. The bill was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th.

Hybrid Bus Transit Incremental Costs
Funding will support the incremental cost of a hybrid propulsion system on 30 forty foot diesel buses that are already being procured.
Chelan-Wenatchee
Link Transit: $2,925,000
Battery Powered – Zero Emission Circulator Buses
Funding will support the Innovative Quick Opportunity Charge, Lithium-Ion "Titanate" Battery Powered Community Bus program. This project replaces five diesel powered buses operating on high frequency circulator routes and will also create a "quick charge" automated opportunity charge station with two charging podiums at Link Transit’s Intermodal Transportation Center. An additional manual charging station would be installed at Operations Base.

Clark County Public Transportation Benefit Area: $1,500,000
Facility Improvement Project
Funding will improve various systems and install solar panels at several Clark County facilities. System improvements include high performance fluorescent lighting, LED exit signs, retrofitting existing pole lights; and installing occupancy sensors for private offices, conference rooms and bathrooms. HVAC upgrades include DDC control system covering all buildings, expanded control system with advanced control strategies. Solar PV system installations range from 5kW to 20kW.
