(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that fire departments in Snoqualmie Pass, Gig Harbor, and Sedro-Woolley have received grants through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to construct, modify, and upgrade fire stations.
“These grants will help local communities create jobs and will help firefighters keep our families safe,” said Senator Patty Murray. “Fire departments across the state are struggling in the face of local budgets cuts, and these grants will give communities the support they need to continue investing in critical fire station improvements.”
As a senior member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Murray fought for funding for fire departments to be included in the Recovery Act. Senator Murray voted to pass the Recovery Act on February 13th. The bill was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th.
The Washington state fire departments receiving recovery grants are:
- Snoqualmie Pass Fire and Rescue: $4,007,374
- City of Sedro-Woolley Fire Department: $1,202,024
- Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One – Crescent Valley: $1,001,072
- Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One – Fox Island: $1,001,072
