(Washington, D.C) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that she included $73 million in federal defense work for Washington state companies in the final version of the Fiscal Year 2010 Defense Appropriations bill. The spending bill has now been approved by both houses of Congress after passing the Senate today by a vote of 88-10 and will now head to the President who is expected to sign it into law. Senator Murray is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
“This spending will create good jobs in Washington state and help our armed forces get the cutting-edge military equipment they need and deserve,” said Senator Patty Murray. “Washington state companies are at the forefront of research and innovation, and these contracts will give them the resources they need to continue developing new ways to keep our servicemembers and country safe. The funding I have included in this bill will provide a critical boost to the economy, and it will make a strong investment in research, technology, and innovation in Washington state. It will also fund key Washington National Guard missions and allow cutting-edge research at Washington state public universities in support of the military.”

This funding would create a counterdrug prevention, detection, and interdiction training center at the Army National Guard installation at Camp Murray. This world-class, multi-use training and education center would offer vital training to federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement officers to provide them with the skills needed to protect communities in Washington state and across the nation from illegal narcotics trafficking and the threat of narcoterrorism.
2010 Washington Military Department Domestic Operations Response Equipment

This funding would purchase a command and control vehicle and a field shelter with secure communications for the Washington National Guard. This would improve the Washington National Guard’s ability to respond to natural or manmade disasters and fulfill its mission to protect lives and property in Washington state.
Critical Infrastructure Interdependencies Vulnerabilities Assessment Program (CIIVA)
