Air Force Admits Errors in Tanker Contract

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Following an announcement that the Air Force miscalculated the lifecycle costs of the tankers competing for a $35 billion contract to build the next generation of aerial refueling tankers, U.S. Senator Patty Murray released the following statement:

"Today’s revelation that the Air Force made errors in calculating the lifecycle costs of the competing tankers is not surprising.  This process was flawed from the outset and this is further evidence that we need serious answers from the Pentagon before moving forward.

"I am glad that the Air Force has taken some responsibility for this error, but Congress and the American taxpayer need a full accounting of the decision, not a slow drip of information."
