Senator Murray’s Statement on Failure of CHIP Veto Override Vote in the House of Representatives

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement after the House of Representatives failed to override the President’s veto of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The final vote in the house was 273-156. 286 votes were needed for an override.

"Today a minority of House Republicans said no to a majority of our nation’s low-income children.   Rather than giving them access to the health care they need to thrive and succeed, House Republicans fed our kids the partisan line and refused to override the President’s veto. Democrats and a bipartisan majority in the Senate will continue to fight for our children because it is the right thing to do for our children and for our future."
