(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – In response to a federal district court ruling that the Pledge of Allegiance cannot be recited in public schools because the phrase “under God” endorses religion, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) today released a statement in support of the Pledge.
“I strongly disagree with today’s ruling and I am proud to support the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance in America’s schools.
School children across America have grown up with the Pledge of Allegiance for generations and its recitation is an important part of our daily customs here in the United States Senate. The Pledge of Allegiance should remain an important and symbolic American tradition.”
