(Washington,
D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that Bellevue
Community College would receive a grant to fund their health information
technology program which trains health care professionals to help support
providers as they switch to electronic records. A senior member of the Health,
Education, Labor and Pensions committee, Senator Murray has long supported
investments in health IT, which will save our health care system billions
through cutting waste and eliminating the need to repeat medical tests. This is
the second year that BCC has received a grant to lead a 10-state consortium of
community colleges from
the Community College Consortia to Educate Health Information Technology
Professionals in Health Care Program. This program is funded through the America
Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“I am
proud that Bellevue Community College received a grant to continue their
critical health information technology training program,” said Senator Murray. “As our innovative health care
industry continues to grow, investing in a well trained workforce is one of the
smartest job-creating investments we can make.”
Programs
within the College Consortia to Educate Health Information Technology
Professionals in Health will help train more than 10,500 new health IT
professional annually by 2012.
