(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) received the ‘Advocate of the Year’ award from the United States Student Association (USSA), the country’s oldest and largest student-led organization, which represents over 4 million students at over 400 campuses across the nation. USSA works to develop current and future leaders and amplify the grassroots student voice at the local, state, and national levels to advocate for issues affecting post-secondary education students.
“As a mother, a former pre-school teacher and school board member, I feel very strongly that we need an education system that works well for our parents, our schools and teachers—and most importantly, our students,” Senator Murray said. “I am so proud to receive this award and look forward to partnering with USSA to fight for the needs of students across the country. The work that USSA does to amplify the voices of students across America is more important now than ever before as Republicans in Congress continue targeting programs that help students access an affordable, high-quality education.”
