(Washington D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray made the following statement after Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced that one of the Navy’s five newest submarines will be named the USS Washington to honor Washington state’s contributions and support for the military.
“I am pleased that the Navy has announced that one of their newest submarines will recognize Washington state’s great contributions to the Navy’s submarine history and its role as the third largest fleet concentration in the United States. As home to Naval Base Kitsap, our state has been a center for the construction, operation, repair and maintenance of the US submarine fleet for nearly 40 years. This is a well deserved honor.”
