PIERCE COUNTY: Murray Applauds Federal Investment in Pierce College

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) applauded the U.S. Department of Education’s decision to grant $394,384  in federal funds to Pierce College under the Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) grant program.  The FY 2013 SIP grant aims to assist in increasing postsecondary success and college completion, and improving overall productivity.

“This is a critical investment for Pierce College and the students they serve, including many veterans, servicemembers and their families,” said Senator Patty Murray.  “I applaud the Department of Education for this investment, which together with private dollars, leverages resources to promote student completion and success in Pierce County.”

The SIP program helps eligible institutions of higher education to become self-sufficient and expand their capacity to serve low-income students by providing funds to improve and strengthen the academic quality, institutional management, and fiscal stability of eligible institutions.
