FERRIES: Murray Announces Major Funding for Ferry Systems in Washington State

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, applauded the U.S. Department of Transportation’s announcement that Washington State Department of Transportation and King County Department of Transportation will receive federal grants to support ferry system improvements.

“This critical funding for ferries in Washington state will help to maintain and modernize ferry facilities around the Puget Sound,” said Senator Murray.  “We depend on ferries as part of our transportation system to commute to work and back home safely to our families. I’m pleased we are making the necessary federal investments in our infrastructure to improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the nation’s largest ferry system.”

Breakdown of funding is as follows:

  • $4,700,000 to Washington State Department of Transportation for improvements to ferries in Mukilteo.
  • $3,000,000 to King County Department of Transportation for improvements in Seattle/King County.
  • $2,268,000 to Washington State Department of Transportation for improvements in Edmonds.
