Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committees, released the following statement on President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Proposal.
“Budgets are all about priorities, and I am very glad that the President’s budget lays out a vision for a government and an economy that prioritizes jobs, middle class families, and broad-based economic growth. This budget proposal is a strong starting point for Democrats and Republicans to work together to build on the bipartisan budget deal we reached at the end of 2013 that helped the economy and moved us away from the constant crises and job-killing automatic cuts. I hope that Republican leaders have learned the lessons from years past and will agree to work with us on a responsible bipartisan budget without waiting for another completely unnecessary crisis.”
At the end of 2013, Senator Murray and Rep. Ryan worked with their colleagues to pass the Bipartisan Budget Act, which prevented another government shutdown, rolled back sequestration evenly across defense and non-defense discretionary spending for two years, and moved Congress away from the constant crises.
