Washington, D.C.—Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Loretta Lynch as U.S. Attorney General. The final vote was 56-43.
“Today’s confirmation is historic, well-deserved and long-overdue. Loretta Lynch is a proven leader who has dedicated her life to making our communities safer, and I am confident she will do everything in her power to fight for Washington state families and protect them from harm. From taking on criminals and terrorists, to tackling corporate corruption, to fighting for civil rights for all Americans in our streets, our voting booths, and beyond—I look forward to working with Attorney General Lynch as she takes the reins in this critical role.
“I also want to thank outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder for his service to our country and his great work fighting for equality for LGBT people, enforcing civil rights laws for Americans with a disability, defending every citizen’s right to vote, and so much more. Attorney General Holder has led with integrity, fought tirelessly to advance civil rights in our country, and has so much to be proud of as he leaves office.”
