Murray Applauds Airport Improvement Program Investments Across Washington State

(Washington, D.C.) —Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, applauded the Federal Aviation Administration’s announcement that seven airports across Washington state will receive over $3 million in federal grants via the Airport Improvement Program. The grants will be used to make critical improvements to the airports in order to support air traffic and to promote economic growth in rural areas.

“The Airport Improvement Program is necessary to keep up with increased air traffic and maintaining our airports’ infrastructure,” said Senator Patty Murray. “These investments are excellent news for rural communities across Washington state and I will keep fighting to support our local transportation systems.”

Breakdown of funding is as follows:

  • $30,000 to Wilbur Airport in Wilbur to rehabilitate 3,850 feet of Runway 20/20.

  • $894,000 to William R Fairchild International Airport at the Port of Port Angeles to construct a 6,667 square yard general aviation apron.

  • $300,000 to Ione Municipal Airport in Ione to construct a new turnaround taxiway.

  • $150,000 to Chehalis-Centralia Airport in Chehalis to begin design on rehabilitating 27,000 square yards of the existing apron.

  • $135,000 to Friday Harbor Airport at the Port of Friday Harbor to begin design on rehabilitating taxiways and the existing apron.

  • $1,150,000 to Olympia Regional Airport at the Port of Olympia to rehabilitate a taxiway.

  • $400,000 to Ocean Shores Municipal Airport in Ocean Shores to rehabilitate an existing runway and apron, and install an emergency generator.
