VETERANS: Two Leading Groups Honor Senator Patty Murray for Her Work on IVF Legislation
(Washington, D.C.) — Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) was honored to receive national recognition today from two leading groups for her work to ensure veterans with service-connected injuries have access to assisted reproductive technology, including IVF. Last December, President Obama signed legislation into law that gave the Department of Veterans Affairs the authority to cover the costs of assisted reproductive technology for the first time since the early 1990s. Sen. Murray thanked both groups, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the National Military Families Association, for their partnership in making the legislation a reality, as well as for supporting Sen. Murray’s newly-reintroduced bill to expand the Caregivers program.
“Military families sacrifice so much on our behalf, and they deserve to know their country will be there for them, no matter what,” Senator Murray said. “Making sure veterans and their spouses have access to reproductive assistance is just one way we can fulfill that promise, and I couldn’t be more proud to have Paralyzed Veterans of America and the National Military Families Association by my side as we work together to make sure we are doing everything we can for the men and women who sacrifice so much in their service to our country.”

The National Military Families Association (NMFA), a nonprofit advocacy group that represents servicemembers, their spouses, and their children, awarded Sen. Murray with the 2017 Support of Military Families Award.
