(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) issued the following statement on President Trump’s push to cut $18 billion from the budget in fiscal year 2017.
“Fresh off of his failed attempt to destroy health care in America, President Trump now seems intent on driving our country into another completely unnecessary crisis. I want to be very clear: the massive and immediate cuts to education, health care, medical research, and other middle class and worker priorities that President Trump is demanding are absolute non-starters for Democrats. Republicans in Congress need to do the right thing and ignore this absurd demand from President Trump to renege on our bipartisan agreement, they need to push aside the extreme members of their caucus who want to defund Planned Parenthood, and they need to work with us on a fair and responsible budget for the rest of this year.”
