VETERANS: Sen. Murray Meets with VA Secretary McDonald to Discuss Pressing VA Issues

Murray asked VA’s top official for a progress update on MyVA initiative goals to address systemic problems and shortfalls

Senator Murray questions Secretary McDonald about VA progress

(Washington, D.C.) – Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, questioned Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Bob McDonald about the VA’s budget request and other priorities in the VA. Part of their conversation focused on the MyVA program, an effort VA created in 2014 to reorganize the Department and better serve millions of veterans in Washington state and across the country. Senator Murray requested an update on the MyVA goals laid out by Secretary McDonald to ensure it was on track to make real progress in the Department’s functioning.

Senator Murray also pressed Secretary McDonald to ensure that the Caregivers Program would have the tools, people, and resources it needs if her legislation is passed into law. Senator Murray pushed Secretary McDonald to continue working to improve the VA and new non-VA care program, including the Choice Program, for the long-term.

As demand on the VA is expected to increase in the coming years, Sen. Murray is calling on her colleagues and leaders at the VA to address ongoing issues with the VA now, and work toward a solution that provides high-quality care for veterans.
