Senator Murray Statement on Senate Republicans Delaying Fiscal Year 2021 Markups
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement in response to reports that Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-AL) and Senate Republicans are delaying the appropriations process to avoid addressing issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the on-going protests regarding police brutality and systemic racism.
“The Chairman of one of the most powerful committees in the Senate is postponing its work indefinitely, unless Democrats agree not to raise some of the most pressing, intertwined crises our country faces: the pandemic and racial injustice. People across the country are demanding meaningful action, and I urge the Chairman to stop blocking us from delivering.”
