Senator Murray: “A budget is a reflection of our values and priorities – so I’m glad President Biden’s budget lays out a plan for making sure our economy actually works for working families, and not just those at the very top.”
Washington, D.C. – Today U.S. Senator Patty Murray issued the following statement on the White House’s newly released budget.
“A budget is a reflection of our values and priorities – so I’m glad President Biden’s budget lays out a plan for making sure our economy actually works for working families, and not just those at the very top. I look forward to continuing to fight for critical investments in our workers, students, families and communities by making child care affordable for every family who needs it, passing a comprehensive national paid leave policy for all workers, lowering health care costs, and making community college free – because helping our families and kids succeed is an investment in our present and our future.
“I’m also focused on securing significant investments in both housing and transit – we have an important opportunity to tackle Washington state’s housing crisis by building millions of energy efficient and affordable homes, and we can fix our crumbling roads and bridges in Washington state, while also expanding public transit options. These investments will help create millions of good-paying, union jobs and more equitable communities while advancing clean energy. This will help make America more competitive and tackle climate change head on. I’ll keep working to ensure we build back fairer and stronger for all Washington state families.”
Senator Murray is the Chair of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. In this role she has helped craft many of the hallmark proposals included in the President’s budget like its investments in child care, paid leave, and higher education. As the second highest ranking Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Murray plays an instrumental role in securing federal funding for key Washington state priorities like housing and transit.
