(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) today announced a total of $3.75 million in federal support for airport improvement projects at Seattle’s SeaTac Airport.
The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants, approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will be disbursed on September 2nd.
SeaTac will receive $1.5 million in AIP grants to install runway lighting.
“Maintaining the function and safety of Washington’s runways is a top priority,” Murray said. “Thanks to these grants, SeaTac can make the improvements it needs to run safely and at full capacity.”
Seattle will also receive $2.25 million from the FAA for noise reduction projects. The funds will be used to provide sound insulation including window treatments, new doors and ventilation for homes and public buildings near SeaTac.
“This money will help families, schools and businesses in communities near SeaTac to improve their quality of life by minimizing unwanted noise,” said Murray. “These noise reduction projects will help protect our community from noise pollution while allowing SeaTac to continue to grow as one of the most important economic and commercial hubs in our state.”
As the ranking Democrat on the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, Murray secured the funding for the improvement projects at SeaTac in the fiscal year 2003 Transportation Appropriations bill.
