ICYMI: With Senator Murray as Appropriations Chair, President Biden Proposes Largest Budget Ever for Hanford Cleanup – MORE HERE
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE), Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reaching a conceptual agreement on revising their plans to manage the tank waste stored at the Hanford site.
“This agreement is good news for Hanford workers, the Tri-Cities community, and all of Washington state. I have long held that the federal government has a moral and legal obligation to support Hanford workers and clean up the Hanford site—I’m glad there’s conceptual agreement on tank waste between the state and the administration on how to make good on that commitment.
“As we continue to make progress at the Hanford site—thanks to the incredible dedication and efforts of thousands of Hanford workers—I will be fighting to deliver the resources and funding necessary to finish the job. I’m pleased that the President’s budget request was the largest ever for the Hanford cleanup, and I’ll be working to ensure this funding supports the mission at Hanford across the entire operation.”
