(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, issued the following statement to commemorate this Memorial Day.
“On this Memorial Day, we take time to show our thanks and honor the memory of the brave members of our military who lost their lives in service to our country. We owe our military families a great debt of gratitude for the sacrifices they’ve made and continue to make on behalf of our country. And I know how personal this occasion is for surviving family members, who have lost parents, spouses, sons, daughters, and other loved ones during their service.
“As we devote this time to show our appreciation to our nation’s heroes and remember the lives of fallen soldiers, this day serves a critical reminder that the best way we can honor their sacrifice is by working every day to fulfill the promises we’ve made to them as a country. We make a promise to take care of military servicemembers and their families long after their service ends—as the daughter of a WWII veteran, I take that obligation seriously. So to all who have served, thank you. To the family members and loved ones of those we’ve lost—please know I will always stand with you and be a voice for you in the United States Senate.”
