Murray Statement As U.S. Remembers One Million People Lost to COVID-19

Murray: “My heart is with everyone missing someone they lost today.”

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee released the following statement as the U.S. marks the loss of a million people to COVID-19.

“My heart is with everyone missing someone today. The pain our families have suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic is unthinkably heartbreaking. Millions of people across the country have lost loved ones to this virus. Hundreds of thousands of kids have had their worlds turned upside down by the death of a parent or caregiver. Our communities have lost nurses, teachers, first responders, and so many other friends, neighbors, and leaders,” said Senator Murray.

“After all our families have been through, we owe it to them to make sure our nation is never in a situation like this again. I have heard from so many people about how devastating the past two years have been, which is why I am working so hard to pass bipartisan legislation to ensure we truly learn, and act on, the lessons of this pandemic.

“It’s also why I am pushing so hard for more funding to get our communities the tests, treatments, vaccines, and other lifesaving tools they need to keep families safe and be ready for whatever COVID-19 throws at us next.”
