Senator Murray Announces Millions in American Rescue Plan Relief for Washington State Airports

Yakima Air Terminal will receive more than $1.3 million and Walla Walla Regional Airport will receive more than $1.2 million

Senator Murray: “I’m glad to see these airports receive this crucial funding I fought to include in the American Rescue Plan so they can continue to play a strong role in supporting our regional economies.”

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced more than $3 million in relief funding for Washington state airports from the American Rescue Plan, including $1,342,035 for Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field and $1,242,589 for Walla Walla Regional Airport. The awards are distributed by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as part of $8 billion in total grants that Senator Murray helped secure in the American Rescue Plan to keep U.S. airport workers employed and help U.S. airports recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As airports of all sizes in our state continue working to recover from the devastating effects of this past year’s public health crisis, it is critical they get the help they need to safely keep workers on payroll, passengers on planes, and goods moving through the skies,” said Senator Murray. “I’m glad to see these airports receive this crucial funding I fought to include in the American Rescue Plan so they can continue to play a strong role in supporting our regional economies. I’m going to keep fighting for continued investments in our nation’s air transportation infrastructure to ensure that everyone who relies on our airports can get themselves and their products where they need to go.”

Senator Murray has been a consistent champion of securing funding for Washington state transportation infrastructure, especially during the pandemic. In addition to the $8 billion in airport relief she worked to include in the American Rescue Plan, she also fought to include $30 billion for transit agencies who have been deeply impacted by the pandemic and forced to cut service and jobs in the American Rescue Plan, as well as $35 billion in aid for our nation’s transit systems and airports as part of the CARES Act.

Senator Murray also fought to include a $25 billion investment in airports across the country as part of the bipartisan, Senate-passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. These funds could be used to address repair and maintenance backlogs, reduce congestion and emissions near airports, and drive electrification and other low-carbon technologies.
